Survey Skills

knowledge

The Survey Skills programme is an exciting ESRC-funded opportunity for social researchers to gain a first-hand insight into the survey process in the 'real world' and to improve their skills in survey research methods. A prestigious collaboration of academic institutes and professional research organisations have joined together to offer a wide range of capacity-building and training opportunities covering all stages of the survey research process. The aim is to strengthen the relationships between those who organise, carry out and use surveys, as well as improve the quality of survey research.

Survey Skills is open to postgraduate research students, academics and researchers from government and other public bodies, as well as those working in the charity and voluntary sectors. Participants will be invited to attend a one-day workshop at a nominal cost to learn more about survey research. It will cover the whole survey process and outline some key methodological issues. Participants will then have the opportunity to spend up to four separate days learning more about different aspects of the survey process; these placements are hosted by a range of different research organisations and provide an insight into the practical world of professional survey research. Reduced price places on some existing research methods courses will also be available to those who participate in Survey Skills placements.

Participation in the programme will help you, or your students and colleagues, to improve your skills in survey research, understand the challenges of running a survey in the field and enhance your knowledge about key survey research methods, processes and quality indicators.
