  • ESDS Nesstar Catalogue | Provides online access to a selection of major survey datasets from the wider ESDS collection. Users can browse data and metadata and search for variables according to the content of a variable's name, label and question text. Registration required for analysing/downloading data but not for variable/question search.

Specific to a survey

  • British Election Studies Information Site (BESIS) | Similar functionality to Nesstar. Search interface allows user to find questions from British Election Studies series and to view possible responses, frequencies, links to original questionnaire. Registration required.
  • British Social Attitudes Survey (BSAS) Information System | Advanced version of the BESIS interface, offering the same functionality plus the ability to browse BSAS questions by keyword. Intuitive exploratory analysis functions available. Registration required.
  • iLSYPE | Data management service for LSYPE users. Like Nesstar, based around finding variables first and question text second. Registration required for downloading data but not for question/variable search.

  • Canadian Poll DataBank (CPOLL) | Employs iPoll functionality. Currently prototype only. Registration required.
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Q-BANK | Sophisticated search interface that allows user to search for evaluated (tested) questions from a range of federal surveys. Search according to survey, topic, question type, response to pull up question text and a range of associated resources, including evaluations of the question. No registration required.
  • Centre for Comparative European Survey Data (CCESD) Information System | Another CCESD information system with the look-and-feel of the BESIS and BSAS IS. The search allows the user to find survey questions - in the local language - from the major European surveys. Registration required.
  • GESIS: Question Text Retrieval | Searches codebook/questionnaire PDFs for a range of surveys held at Zentralarchiv. No registration required.
  • International Household Survey Network (IHSN): Catalog of Survey Questionnaires | Multi-national coverage of demographic/health/household questionnaires. No registration required.
  • ICPSR: Social Science Variables Database | Variable search for a selection of ICPSR's survey data collection. Variable-level information retrieved includes question text. No registration required.
  • Japanese Data Archive (JPOLL) | The Roper Center's Japanese Data Archive employs iPoll functionality and searches a question-level database of Japanese public opinion polls. Registration required.
  • Pew Research Center for the People & the Press: Question Search | Based on the iPoll functionality, this interface allows users to search for questions across the range of surveys conducted by the Pew Research Center. Question text is linked to frequencies and reports (where they exist). No registration required.
  • Roper Center: iPoll Databank | Searchable database of US public opinion polls. Advanced search facility results pull up question text, frequencies, survey methodology. Registration required.
  • ZA CodebookExplorer | Searches for questions/variables across a small selection of European surveys and allows comparisons to be made for questions that have been asked in different countries and at different times. Also permits download of full data and documentation. Registration required.
