Survey Question Bank
Welcome to the question bank
The question bank is the SQB's hub.
The chief function of the question bank is to enable users to locate particular survey questions and the questionnaires that house those questions, perhaps during that part of the research process where researchers are interested in finding out what questions have been asked on their area of interest, or perhaps in the design of their own survey. Whatever the reason, broadly speaking, the resource is designed to be a searchable databank of questions/questionnaires from the universe of UK social surveys.
In practice, the resource does not quite offer the universe! In its current form, the databank holds the questionnaires, in PDF format, from a range of major UK social surveys conducted, for the most part, since the mid-1990s. These questionnaires - which are fully searchable - are displayed in their original context, allowing users to better understand the context in which a particular question was asked.
There are plans, however, to extend the databank's coverage to something closer to the universe described above. Eventually, the expectation is that users will be able to search for questions/questionnaires across the entire holdings of the ESDS (see the ESDS Data Catalogue) and that, for a subset of key, recent surveys held by the ESDS, users will not only be able to retrieve fragments of PDF questionnaires as the results of their search but will also be able to match those questions to the variables and the datasets that are derived from them.
